Temporary rent deferment
I would be most grateful for your opinions on the following:
My tenant, like many others, is struggling due to COVID-19. He has been furloughed but his employer has been delayed in paying him.
We have agreed a reduction in rent for 3 months: the idea is a 33% deferment but the tenant is to make up the reduction over the coming year or so.
Is this an acceptable way to amend the tenancy? His payments from August onward would be higher than the amount on the tenancy agreement as he is in arrears.
Would I be correct in issuing an addendum and us both signing it?
