managing agents vs self management
I have used a letting agent to manage a property for the first time, normally I use an agent to find a tenant then manage it myself. The agent is taking his commission each month. Can I elect to take over the management myself after the AST become periodic and therefore save myself the commission? One of the reasons I opted for the managed service was because there was a clause that stated for finding a tenant the commission paid in the first year was payable each year, at a reduced rate. Again I have never paid a repeat fee whilst managing myself.
Can the agent demand future payments if I opt to manage myself? I thought this practice had been stopped.
