Smoke alarm clarification
I called the help line this morning so double check the legislation with respect to smoke alarm checks and when they need to be done with respect to the start of the tenancy

The landlord is specifically required to carry out a check to ensure that smoke alarms or carbon monoxide alarms installed to comply with the Regulations are in proper working order on the day a tenancy begins where it is a new tenancy. A new tenancy is a tenancy granted on or after 1st October 2015.
You advise team say " on the day the tenant moves in"
The 2 dates can be different so what is the law
Example: we get every year: students singles or a group sign up to a tenancy agreement starting 1st September but the first one may not move in till 10th September
Question: Check smoke alarm is working on 1st September tenancy start date and record this information or 10th September, when the students moves in. If the latter, then tenant could refuse us access as they are now a tenant
