Rent including council tax
I am currently in the process of purchasing a 1 bed property with sitting tenants. The current landlord has included the council tax which is in his name as part of the rent, regardless how many people are occupying the property.
A) Is this legal? Especially as the current landlord claims 25% discount for single occupancy. Last tenant was a single lady, current occupants are a couple.
B) I would like to not pay the council tax, i.e. make the tenants responsible for it. I am however prepared to reduce the rent to accommodate this for the duration of the tenancy agreement. Again, is this legal even though the current tenancy agreement stipulates that council tax will be paid by the landlord?
