Tenant handed in keys and left mid tenancy
My tenants signed up to a 6 month contract. Moved in and paid first months rent then split up after several weeks and moved back out. They handed the keys in to my agent and are now refusing to pay the rent. My agent says they are jointly liable for the rent and all utility bills and council tax for the whole six months or until I get a new tenant, whichever is sooner. However, a friend of mine had the same scenario, took his tenant to court and the tenant won on the basis he had handed in the keys and therefore ended the contract ! Any advice would be appreciated. Ps. The flat was put back up for rent immediately but no takers as yet.
