My tenant wants a lease for more than 1 year at a time, preferably for a 3 year term... is there such a thing? Am I in danger of creating a long term tenancy that I can't end? I don't want to sell the property yet, but I may have to when my brother (who jointly owns it) retires in about 5 years time. I clearly want to avoid coming 'unstuck' with this! I'm assuming the best way to ensure this is to get a solicitor to draw up a contract, but this will be costly... albeit not as costly as trying to get tenant to leave if this isn't managed the right way from the get-go. Any advice/suggestions would be welcome...
