We wonder if we can have an advice and assistance from you. We have an outbuilding/annexe on the side of our house. It was built in 2010 for family use with bathroom and kitchen facilities. After few weeks we had a visit from the hounslow Council and consequently, were levied Council tax due to the presence of kitchen units. Assuming that since we were paying the council tax, we rented out the place to a couple through an estate agent. The tenancy lasted for 3 years and 8 months.
In May 2014 we again had a visit from the Council, and as a result had to terminate the tenancy in November 2014. The Council argued that we were in breach of planning control - renting out the unit.
The outbuilding/annexe is a properly build unit with good quality fittings all around. We now ask you if you could assist and advise us if there could be a way to legally rent out the annexe either for residential use or office use.
Thank you for your time and we look forward to receive your response.
