TDS-Deposits have to be returned within 10days?

You might think this is an instruction for the landlord to return the deposit to the tenant within 10 days (which could be a little too few days if you have a boatload on your books that all leave at the same time)...but its probably more likely a performance monitor timescale for the TDS operators to return the deposit to the tenant ONCE they (TDS) have received a written instruction to which the landlord and tenant have agreed. Who knows how long it might take to agree with a tenant on the sum to be returned? If tenants fail to agree on a reasonable 'partial deduction' for damage then the landlord reserves the right to dispute the whole amount - goodness me it could take months/years to sort out - gosh think of all that interest building up! Check out how big the accumulated fund of 'unclaimed deposits' is in the Australian Scheme - What did I read...this scheme is designed to help tenants....didn't notice anything about fats cats, did you?
