Hi,

I had a recent experience of 5 police officers turning up at our house asking for keys for a rental property we own. They said they had a search warrant and the tenant wasn't in. I was shown ID but was a bit rattled as one might imagine so handed over the keys. I then phoned the police to verify it was valid and not a scam, it was valid. They spent about 5 hours searching the property.

The tenant has since given notice and left. We told him about it and he seemed relaxed about it and claimed they had never contacted him (likely one)!

What I am interested in is the rights here. Normally we are obviously not allowed to go in without the tenants agreement. Does anyone think we should have done anything else prior to letting the police in?
