On the 25 January a tenanted Cottage I own was destroyed by a fire which became the subject of a Crime Scene with assigned Number. The Council are saying I will be liable for paying the council Tax even though the property is no longer habitable.
I have notified the Rate Listings Authority to have the property removed from its record. The council are aware of this but insist I must pay anyway untill the property is removed from the Rate List.
The Insurance Company are considering my Claim but are not yet paying out for lost Rent.
Under these circumstances what is my legal position regarding having to pay council tax?
