Thoughts please on behalf of a family member. Tenant's toaster caught fire in her rental. No damage part from a shattered bread board. She cleaned off the soot from the ceiling and walls, called the landlord who seemed unconcerned and said it would be an insurance job to repaint. Now the tenant has vacated the landlord wants to use the deposit. Should the tenant have been given the opportunity to pit it right beforehand ? As a landlord myself I veer towards insurance but any opinions welcome. Thank you
