HMO or self-contained? Which is best?
I bought a 3 storey Victorian property of 7 self-contained flats last January in the north-east. 5 of them are largish rooms adapted 10 years ago to contain their own shower/toilets with a kitchenette area of sink/double gas burner. 2 of the upper flats are larger with one a double room and the top flat (mine).. sitting room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom.. you get the picture. Ive just been accepted as an accredited landlord by the council who have recommended that I change the property status to HMO. What is best?
