Forcible entry for health and safety reasons
Please will you advise whether it is acceptable to break into a flat if there is an urgent health or safety issue?
On Friday we had an instance in our block where the gas board were called out because of a suspected gas leak. They were able to trace it to one of the flats in the block but there was no-one in. Fortunately we were able to contact the landlord who in turn contacted the tenant who returned to his flat to enable access. We are left wondering what our legal options would have been had we not been able to make contact with either resident or leaseholder?
Your advice will be much appreciated.
