Expertise required re Council Tax
My tenant's lease officially expired 17th December but she refused to leave and paid a further month's rent so the lease ran on for a month. She refused also to show people around and I have evidence that she was at the house. Meanwhile she was buying a property with a divorce settlement and purchased a home nearby and registered it for Council Tax from 20th December. She told EFDC that my lease ended on 17/12 - she lied basically. So I used up my free period waiting to get the keys back. This is unfair because I know she was sleeping in my home whilst she had her new home made ready. EFDC are wholly unsympathetic. What can I do? If I accept what they say it will cost me £500 in Council Tax as the property remains empty whilst i now refurb it.
