A man has been jailed for 15 months for illegally subletting a property in Cheshunt, prompting a warning that other criminal landlords could also find themselves behind bars.

Fifty-year-old Anthony Nwadike-Spencerís scam was uncovered by a police investigation that resulted in his arrest in August 2016.

The fraudster put his rented home on the market and took a deposit from an unsuspecting potential tenant ó despite having already been given notice by the actual landlord to vacate the property in September 2015.

He was found guilty of fraud by false representation at St Albans Crown Court on Monday (5 February) and ordered to refund the victim's deposit.
