How long do you legally have to keep information?
How long do we need to keep information about tenancies that have ended? I'm thinking about copies of passports (to prove we have checked right to rent), references, lease agreements, other signed documentation (to prove that we gave all the required information about deposits, EPCs, etc).
Is it all irrelevant once the tenancy ends and the deposit has been returned?
Is there ever a reason for a tenant to come back at a landlord for negligence or anything?
What about previous year's insurance cover? Do we need to keep evidence of that?
Is it 7 or 8 years worth of receipts for audit purposes?
