I took a £50 deposit from a tenant - it was all he could afford. I protected it with the DPS. The tenant left in January owing me £1500. Now the DPS won't give me the deposit because the tenant hasn't agreed. They say:

"We can confirm that we are only able to release a deposit, if we have both parties agreement by way of completing the Joint Deposit Repayment process. If this is not the case, the only other alternatives are to complete the Statutory Declaration form (we advise to shop around for prices), or you go to court. We can confirm that there is no time limit for either party to respond to a repayment request."

Completing the statutory declaration or going to court will cost me more than £50!
Is there anything I can do?
