We have a new purchase, with tenants already in situ. The contract agreement was copied and produced for our inspection before we completed. However, when meeting the tenants they told us that the former landlord paid their wayter bills. We do not pay water bills! Their tenancy agreement stated that all bills were the responsibilty of the tenants. The tenants said there was a verbal agreement with the former landlord. Note. the water bills do have the landlords name and address on the top, but the landlords may have collected that rent from the tenants.
Where do we stand? I think we have every right to ask for the payment to be taken over by the tenants as per contract.
Note: we have not put up their rent or had them sign one of our contracts.

Thanks for your advice.
