my son has just moved into a student house in Bristol. all of the students in the property have signed a single tenancy agreement.

Despite there being a lock on his bedroom door, no key has been provided, and the landlord has said that a replacement lock would be needed at the students cost if he wants to lock his room.

is there any obligation on the landlord to provide a lock? I find it really surprising that this is not automatically provided given the nature of the rental.

In addition, given the bedroom door has a lock, does the landlord not have an obligation to notify the lack of a key before the rental starts?

Thirdly (lastly) do Universities not mandate this type of requirement on landlords that rent to their students.
