Hello,

We have been having a debate about service charges at work.

My belief and the RLA is that a landlord should not charge their tenant the service charge for the block, it is the landlords (leaseholders) responsibility.

It came up as a landlord who owns a block of flats, and is letting them out himself wants to charge his tenant the service charge.

I have been trying to find some information that I can send but reading the leasehold advisory information that the RLA said would be best to contact is not overly clear to me:

https://www.lease-advice.org/faq/service-charge/ (definition)

https://www.lease-advice.org/fact-sheet/service-charges/ (fact sheet)

https://www.lease-advice.org/advice-guide/service-charges-other-issues/ (full advice guide)
