I was charged £18 by agents as they gave my details to HMRC, without consent
I have been charged £18 by my letting agent as the cost for them to provide HMRC with my details. I did not have this charge last year and did not request them to do it, I have an accountant to do this. They provide a rent collection service only.
When I queried the charge, they said "The £18 isnít something that we charge, it comes straight from the HMRC as they request all documents from us for current landlords so we have to give them over." Even if they have to give my documents without my consent then why should I have to pay this? Do they have to give my details and is the cost correct?.
