References - how to get them?
I never used to bother getting landlord references thinking that you probably can't rely on them. Over time I have come to see references as a useful tool alongside credit check, seeing wage slips, bank account etc.
But how should we get landlord references for applicants?
The ideal applicant walks into the viewing and shows a paper reference alongside id and proof of income. But that is rare.
What is a realistic expectation of what the tenant should provide and what I should do? How much work should we do to chase them?
