A problem which sometimes arises with blocks of flats is that some are let out and others are owner-occupied. Be very careful about buying these flats to let out, or letting your own owner-occupied flat out. Quite often, the lessor company owns and lets out a number of properties in a block of flats, but refuse to allow any other owner to sub-let. If there is a clause forbidding sub-letting, you are bound by this, regardless of the fact that the owners of the property are themselves letting out some of the flats. The flats let out by the lessor company will be to tenants chosen by them; they will have no control over the tenants if other owners are allowed to sub-let.
