I bought a property in December but it was not let out until the June as it was being refurbished and I wanted to wait for the student market.

I therefore incurred the majority of the expenses in the 2017/18 tax year and have zero income for that period.
Am I right that I can offset my income in 2018/19 against those costs and (as they were considerable) if the expenses are higher than the income, that I can carry the remaining costs forward indefinitely until they have all been used up?
