Hi,

I've recently found out about HMRC Form 17.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/income-tax-declaration-of-beneficial-interests-in-joint-property-and-income-17

I was told that you can use it to declare a % split between owners of a property, like say 60/40 or 70/30 for income and capital gains tax purposes. Looking online the HMRC website states that you can do this with your partner or civil partner. However does anyone know if I can still use this form to declare a % split with my mother who doesn't and never did live in the property and in fact has no interest in it? She just helped me get the mortgage back then.

With thanks,
Philip
