My tenancy agreements include provision for sharing information with, among other bodies, local authorities. They do not provide for sharing information with the police. I recently provided to the police the address of a tenant's mother, obtained as a previous address on the tenant's application form. The police wished to search for, and arrest the tenant for a stabbing.

Did I have the legal right, or even obligation, to provide the address to the police?
