At a recent Landlords' Forum (hosted by a local authority) it was stated that anyone (including landlords) who gathers and stores personal details of anyone else (including tenants) should actually comply with all Data Protection legislation (including being registered for managing such data).

It is difficult to imagine that "anyone" could include such organisations as Church Sunday Clubs, Scouts and charities would have such an onerous burden (being not for profit), but could that really be true for landlords?

What responsibiliites (if any) DO landlords have under the Data Protection rules?

Many thanks!
