Hi,

I wonder if you can give me some advice. My daughter is a student and has signed a contract for accommodation for the next academic year (October 2009). The contract starts in July 2009, but the landlord has said that he is now letting the house to some other people until October, but my daughter and her friends will still have to pay 28 a week to retain it (rather than the 84 a week full rent). Even more annoyingly, they have taken the full amount from her from this month, and said they will make the refund in October - apparently it is too difficult to alter the standing order!

I try to be very fair to the tenants of my mother's house, so feel very annoyed that people can act in this way. Before I complain, could you give me any idea whether what they are doing is actually legal?

Many thanks.
