Are scanned signatures on a tenancy agreement as legally binding as an original signature?

We have a tenancy agreement with a scanned signature on it whereby the tenancy isn't due to end for another 4 months. The tenant is saying that as we do not have the hard copy we do not have a legally binding agreement and he can leave the tenancy whenever he wants. He says he has taken legal advice on this.

Please would someone with experience of this give me some advice.

Thank you.
