I was quite relieced this morning when I looked into the costs of the new schemes, one custodial scheme is actually free, although the opportunity cost of the lost interest is more than the cost of the insurance schemes I looked at, which amounted to an initial registration cost of 58.75 then an annual charge of 14.70 this is a total fee and not for each property, then an actual fee of 30 per tenancy agreement. Although the scheme is not prohibitively expensive I intend to cahrge the 30 fee to the tenants, after all it is a scheme to protect their deposit, so it is for their benefit not mine. I wondered if other landlords are likely to also pass the fees on to the tenants?

By the way the cheapest scheme I found was http://www.mydeposits.co.uk
