Sir/Madam,

Bearing in mind the recent Age Descrimination laws being brought in is it not illegal that my local council (and I assume councils nationwide) pay a much reduced housing benefit for anyone under 25?

Surely there is no reason why someone of 24 (or indeed 16) needs less help towards their rent than someone at the point of their 25th birthday and beyond. One would have thought that this was exactly the sort of discrimination that the new laws were supposed to stamp out.

Has there been any legal challenges to this as yet or is a challenge in progress?

Many thanks for your help.
