I have a property rented out and under management since 2001.
I accidently discovered through a search that the name given by my tenant is not the one which appears on the council tax role and electoral role.
Asked the estate agent managing my property to ask the tenant why the name is different .
The reply was that the tenant has put a different name (a friend's name) for council tax purposes in order to receive a student council tax rebate....
At the present time there are 2 people living in the property the tenant and its partner both working and managing small businesses.
I then requested a proof of ID to ascertain the identity of the tenant.
The tenant now refuses to update his change of circumstances with the council tax and to provide me and the estate agent with proof of ID..the estate agent feels that they do not want to pursue the thing any further and await my instructions.
What shall I do?
