In December 2009, I employed a letting agent to find a tenant for my Surbiton property. They were very economical with what they verbally told me about the agreement and their small print is just that!!!! I tried to get rid of them when the 2 year contract that they negotiated with the tenant finished but keep the tenant. All that the agents were doing were collecting the rent (and weren't particulary good at that!!!)
they told me that as long as the tenant was in the property they were legally entitled to collect commission (the whole year up front!!)
they have just sent me and the tenant a letter asking whether we wish to continue the tenancy despite the fact that they no longer have anything to do with the tenant - I gave her an agreement direct and collect her rent direct into my account.
Is there any legal way that I can keep the tenant but stop paying
7 1/2% to an organisation that I do not trust!
