My house is divided into 2 flats, I live downstairs and tenants live upstairs. The current tenants are in arrears and eviction papers have been served and a court date set for may 9th. Their flat is on a card electric meter, and I supply the cards for them to buy. Thinking they would be gone by now ( the lease expired at end of March and a legal section 21 was served in Jan), I had planned to go away. I dont want to tell them for how long, but I have to supply them with electric. Am I entitled to tell them I will be away and they must decide/know how long they are going to be here and buy electric cards accordingly? And if they run out am I liable for anything? I just dont want to make it easy for them, but obviously need to be the right side of the law.
