we rented a flat to a 'friend' with a RLA AST 6 month tenancy agreement. We contacted the utility companies and council tax to inform them. The Electricity company say they did not receive our letter and the tenant has run up a bill for 849. he has also damaged the fittings and furniture, and some items are missing (like a mattress) No inventory was taken when he moved in, and no deposit.
We have no forwarding address and he is not answering his phone. we don't know where to go from here.
Do we have a case with the utility company since we have a signed tenancy agreement - can they still oblige us to pay his bill?
Is there any point in pursuing a small claims court action with photos of the damage if no inventory exists?
Help please
