With over 60% of private sector landlords using a letting agent, a positive and professional relationship between landlord, agent and tenant is essential. At times these relationships can be tested and this course is designed to explain the law of agency and its practical application.

Course content

This online course is designed for landlords and letting agents alike:

  • Defines the fiduciary duty placed on agents
  • Uncovers the landlord, agent and tenant relationship with the legal duties of each party
  • What happens if an agent acts without explicit instruction from the landlord
  • How an agent can 'bind' a landlord to a contract
  • How a landlord or agent can terminate services
  • Cooling off periods in consumer contracts


  • Differentiate between each party in the lettings process; the agent, the landlord and the tenant and the duties placed on each
  • Understand the fiduciary duty of agents and how agents can act on behalf of landlords
  • Identify how the law of agency applies in practice and what happens when the agreement is terminated
