Introduction

The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) are in force from 25 May 2018. Although they build on pre-existing data protection legislation there are radical changes, with increased penalties for non compliance. These Regulations apply both before and after Brexit.

The RLA has published detailed guidance on GDPR as well as a training course on the topic. As providers of a service, when you are letting out residential accommodation, you must comply with GDPR.

This Guide tells you what you must do to ensure you are compliant. You need to take steps before 25th May 2018 in order to comply. You then have to carry on complying afterwards as well. Even if you have not done something already by 25th May 2018 you must do it as quickly as possible.

IMPORTANT

Complying with GDPR and Data Protection Legislation is your responsibility. This Guide and various documents are provided to help you. If you are in any doubt about anything you must take your own professional advice. The Residential Landlords Association Ltd does not accept any responsibility or liability for anything done or not done by you in reliance on this Guide and the accompanying documents. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions of Service as the relevant disclaimers of liability apply. This documentation has been prepared in good faith but the Residential Landlords Association Limited does not accept any liability for its content.

The rest of this page provides guidance on how to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation as well as a number of sample documents available exclusively to members of the RLA.
