Welcome to the Local Authority Network
Landlords, councils and landlord associations must work closer together if standards in the private rented sector are to be improved and landlords' interests protected. With increasing demand for housing and severe restrictions on public finance, the private rented sector can provide the principal resource offering availability, adaptability and capability. Our priority is to help landlords to provide safe and healthy accommodation and to run successful commercial operations. In our experience, this can only be achieved by working positively and pro-actively with local councils and other authorities related to the private rented sector. Alan Ward - Chairman
To this end the RLA are offering local authorities free membership and have designed the Local Authority Network to help local authorities build better relationships with landlords in the private sector. The facility has been created to enable Local Authority Network members to promote events and facilitate access to relevant information (including licensing) and advice, so their landlords can find vital information all in one place. In addition, the webpage's will also provide information and advice on national issues of interest to the Private Rented Sector (PRS).
It is anticipated that the facility will become a vital source of reference for landlords in the PRS and enable you to promote the facilities and benefits of a closer working relationship with your local authorities. You can visit the relevant local authority page to find the vital contact information, from general numbers and emails, to specialised teams in housing, licensing, and the PRS. You will find local news, local events by the local authority, specialised training courses run by the RLA that are taking place in your local areas, any 'must-know' information for any landlord operating in that area, including, current licensing, licensing consultations alongside outlines of the processes that it takes to become licenced or 'How Tos' on replying to a consultation period.
As previously stated we believe the PRS will need to play a vital role in meeting the future needs of sustainable housing and that a good working relationship between the local authority and landlords is essential for this to become a reality.
The LA Network provides an effective method for achieving this and an adaptable resource which is both relevant and useful. We believe that this resource will further enhance the facilities that local authorities offer to landlords in the private sector and help them reach out to landlords that they might not otherwise be able to access.
