Nottingham City Council Begins Selective Licensing Consultation

Nottingham City Council has begun the consultation for a city wide selective licensing scheme - with each licence set to cost landlords £600 per rental home.

The scheme was approved on the 22 November 2016 and consultation will take place with tenants, residents, landlords, and other interested parties from January 2017 to March 2017.

If approved the scheme will be one of the largest in the country, with Nottingham home to 43,000 privately rented properties. If each of these required a full-price licence the scheme would net the council more than £25 million.

The council are holding 2 specific consultation events being held at the Council House in Old Market Square (see events below) to hear interested parties' views.

The RLA is opposed to selective licensing schemes, believing they are expensive, unnecessary, and punish good landlords who will be forced to pay for costly licences while the criminals continue to operate below the radar. We will be replying to the consultation and we urge our members to do the same.
